Students of the MLU-USLU Double Degree Program on the AIFC Moot Court Competition
A team of students of the USLU-MLU Double Degree Program - Olga Guselnikova, Semen Russkikh, Arina Sukhova and Maxim Shiryaev - won the Moot Court Competition of Astana International Financial Centre Court and International Arbitration Court. In addition to the Cup for the first place and for the best speaker, the team received an invitation to undergo an internship at the AIFC Court.
It was our pleasure to support the team jointly with our Russian partners - the Head of the USLU Department of Civil Procedure Professor Vladimir Yarkov and coordinator of the Double Degree Program Professor Konstantin Branovitskii. Special thank for overall coordination and supervision goes to our Research Assistant and alumni of the Ural State Law University Dr. Anastasiia Bessonova.
The AIFC Court and IAC Moot Court has been held for the third time. This year, the team faced formidable competition from leading Kazakh, Russian and Azerbaijani Universities. The case-problem raised issues of non-performance of the contract due to force majeure and remoteness of damages under English law. The language of the competition was English.
The oral rounds took place on October 6-7. In the finals, the USLU team met with the winner of the previous two years - the team of KIMEP University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). Judges of the final round were the current judges of the AIFC Court: The Rt. Hon. Sir Jack Beatson FBA, The Rt. Hon. Sir Robin Jacob, The Rt. Hon. Sir Stephen Richards. The Chief Justice of the Court The Rt. Hon. Lord Mance delivered a welcoming speech.
Congratulations to the great success! We are very looking to welcoming all of you next year in Halle.
